How it works

Zero complicated configurations. If you know how to connect two Bluetooth devices, you already know how to use WFAS.

The idea behind WFAS is simple: stream audio between devices in your home without the annoying lag typical of Bluetooth, and without having to install complex virtual drivers. The audio engine was built from scratch to integrate natively with Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

Whether you want to listen to your PC audio from bed with headphones plugged into your phone, or use an old smartphone as a wireless microphone, the principle is the same. Here's how.

The two roles

Server

The source device that generates the music or audio you want to broadcast. Usually, this is your computer (Windows, macOS, or Linux), which captures system audio using a native engine without needing any external virtual drivers.

Client

The device that receives the audio over your local network and plays it back in real-time. This could be your smartphone connected to Bluetooth speakers, or another computer in a different room.

Special note for Android: the mobile app is fully bidirectional. It can act as a Client to receive audio, or as a Server to capture internal phone audio and send it elsewhere.

Install

Start by downloading the free application for your devices. Simply install it on the source device (the Server) and the device you'll use for listening (the Client).

Sending system audio does not require additional virtual drivers. On Windows and macOS, WFAS uses a native C engine to directly capture the default output. Just download the app and open it.

Connect

Open the app on both devices, ensuring they are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The built-in automatic discovery system will find them instantly. You can also choose to enter the IP address manually for total control.

As soon as you open the app, WFAS starts sending a very lightweight beacon signal on your local network (about every 3 seconds). This allows other devices on the same Wi-Fi to discover it magically, without touching your router or opening ports. If you are on a complex corporate network, you can always enter the server's IP address manually.

Listen

Once connected, your audio will start streaming in real-time. You can easily adjust the volume, transmission quality, and latency directly from the settings for a tailored listening experience.

Select the device from the list and hit connect. The custom protocol (WFAS v2) ensures audio packets are transmitted and reassembled on the fly, keeping the delay so low you can watch movies or play games without lip-sync issues.

Native mode

Lowest latency

The optimized proprietary protocol. It offers the lowest possible latency and is the perfect choice for watching videos or gaming without any audio sync issues.

RTP

Standard

Uses the standard RTP protocol. Choose this option if you need to integrate WFAS with other professional audio software already running on your network.

HTTP/AAC

No app required

A highly convenient solution that turns the app into a web server. It lets you listen by simply opening a link in the browser of a Smart TV or another phone, without needing to install the app on the receiving end.

HTTP/Opus

Low bitrate

Similar to the previous mode but uses the highly efficient Opus codec. Ideal for slower or crowded Wi-Fi networks, ensuring high quality while using very little bandwidth.

DLNA / UPnP

Smart TVs & Speakers

Stream audio directly to Smart TVs, soundbars, and AV receivers without installing any app. Uses automatic UPnP discovery and per-device format negotiation.
